From Chaos to Gratitude: Reflecting on a Tough but Rewarding Week by MOB Co-Founder, G
Hi Mobsters!
This week was one of those weeks — the kind i think every mum dreads. Both kids were off school and nursery for most of the week with illness, leaving us all running on empty and sleep-deprived. There were moments when it felt like survival mode had truly kicked in. Honestly, I couldn’t wait for Friday to roll around so I could wave goodbye to this whirlwind week.
But as the dust settles, I realise there’s something powerful about practicing gratitude, even in the most challenging moments. Yes, it’s been a hard week, but it’s also been a reminder of resilience, community, and the small wins that keep us going.
The truth is, Mums Who Build (The Mob) has been my lifeline through weeks like this. Connecting with inspiring, strong, and creative women every day brings me so much joy and keeps me grounded when life feels chaotic.
The Challenges We Face
Being a mum and juggling everything — kids, work, home life, and your own well-being — is no small feat. This week, with both little ones ill and needing constant care, it felt like my to-do list would never end. Sleep deprivation added another layer (hello, coffee on an IV drip!), and I know every parent reading this will understand how hard it is to function when you’re utterly exhausted.
Yet, amidst the chaos, I found moments to pause and practice gratitude. I reminded myself that, even when life feels overwhelming, there’s always something to be thankful for — whether it’s a kind word from a friend, a moment of quiet, or simply making it through another day.
The Wins Worth Celebrating
Despite the challenges, this week brought some amazing milestones and moments for Mums Who Build, and they reminded me why I love what I do. Here’s what we achieved:
1. Our New Mat Leave Membership
We launched a new membership exclusively for mums on maternity leave at Pure Muscles Gym, and the reactions have been heartwarming. Hearing from our Mobsters about how this opportunity fits perfectly into their lives was such a highlight. It’s all about creating spaces where mums feel supported, and seeing that support in action has been incredible.
2. Wellness Bingo is Here
Wellness isn’t just a buzzword — it’s a lifeline for busy mums. That’s why we launched Wellness Bingo, a fun, interactive way to prioritise self-care and mindfulness, created by MOB member, Suzi Ross. Whether it’s a quick walk, trying a new recipe, or simply staying hydrated, these small, intentional acts make such a difference. Seeing how much our community is embracing this idea fills me with gratitude and pride.
3. A Powerful Financial Planning Hangout
Our first Stokey Hangout of the year tackled financial security, thanks to the brilliant Cara Roughani of SEND Protect. Talking about financial planning can feel overwhelming, but it was amazing to see so many mums thinking ahead and taking steps to secure their futures. It’s moments like this that remind me how much strength and determination there is in our community.
4. Mobster Surgery: Sleep Edition
To wrap up the week, we hosted a Mobster Surgery all about sleep. Let’s be honest: sleep (or lack of it) is a universal mum struggle. MOB members and Sleep therapists Amy and Daisy shared expert advice and personal stories, reminding us that better sleep is possible and that we’re never alone in this journey.
The Power of Gratitude
Looking back, what started as a week I couldn’t wait to leave behind turned into a lesson in resilience and gratitude. When I pause to reflect, I’m reminded of how much joy and inspiration the Mob brings into my life.
Every day, I get to connect with women who are doing incredible things — whether they’re navigating life as new mums, pitching businesses, or simply showing up for their families and themselves. It’s a privilege to be part of a community that lifts each other up, celebrates wins (big and small), and makes the hard days feel a little easier.
Looking Ahead
So, what’s next? Aside from the obvious (healthy kids back at school and nursery, please!), we’ve got some exciting things lined up for next week:
Careers Insta Live (Monday): Join us for a live chat with Elizabeth Willets, founder of Investing in Women, where we’ll talk all things career development for mums.
Financial Security Event (Thursday): In partnership with SEND Protect, we’ll be in Islington discussing financial security for SEND families. Spaces are still available, so bring along dads, grandparents, or anyone else who wants to join! RSVP here
Pitch It Club (Friday): This is one of my absolute favourite Mob workshops. Held monthly and hosted online for our Mob WhatsApp community, it’s a space where women can share ideas, practice their pitches, and get real-time feedback from pitching expert Martin Barnes and the amazing group of supportive mums. It’s inspiring to see how much confidence and collaboration these sessions spark.
This week hasn’t been easy, but practicing gratitude has helped me shift my perspective and see the silver linings. Here’s to fresh starts, new opportunities, and (hopefully!) healthy kids.
