MOB to empower mums in Stokey

Written by joel brown, LOCATION LOCATION

The MOB are coming to Stoke Newington, offering intellectual stimulation for mums, financial savviness advice and the network to share skills and advance your own.

Mums Who Build (AKA The MOB) are on a mission to make the most of maternity leave, end imposter syndrome and close the wealth-gap between men and women.
They’ve teamed up with Location Location estate agency and will be running monthly sessions on Wednesday mornings from this autumn, in their Stoke Newington Church St. offices where mums can bring their babies, get to know one another and share their knowledge.
The MOB is run by Georgie Harris, and Bex Coxshall. Georgie worked in marketing for Burberry and Bex worked in commercial finance for brands including Apple and Red Bull before they had their children. The pair met by chance at a mutual friend’s party and connected over a shared dream to empower mums.
One of Georgie’s sons has additional needs and work took a back seat as she devoted her time to supporting him.
She said: “In January last year, I was looking to get back to work but, when I looked at the job specs, the jump up was going to be so huge for me because I’d taken time out for my children - I feel I’ve been hiding under a rock.
“Meeting Bex changed my life. She had this idea of how to empower women and we’re making it happen.

Bex started a management consultancy business BC Taylor Limited (www.bctaylor.co.uk) at the same time as becoming a mum in 2022 and wanted to find other mums who were building businesses, careers and families at the same time to bounce ideas off. Her dream for The MOB was to create a team of other mums to learn from one another to advance themselves, whilst understanding and overcoming the challenges working and parenthood can bring.
“The MOB is the community we would have loved to have had when we were on maternity leave. There are so many things for babies but sometimes you want some more intellectual stimulation. It’s a chance to chat about your ideas and build confidence while learning new skills and get back or into the work you want after becoming a mum.”
Launched in Walthamstow, Mums who Build has three main objectives: wellbeing, connection and financial fitness. This year The MOB has provided free weekly gym classes and online workouts through partnerships with Pure Muscles gym in E17 and XENA Life which will continue into 2025. And the weekly hangouts have provided informal opportunities to build connections between other Mobsters, and monthly skills sharing ‘surgeries’ from social media experts, nutritional therapists, finance experts, and somatic therapists to name a few.
To support financial fitness in mums, Bex created and launched a financial-security-building-toolkit and on-demand financial education platform. The toolkit has been seen over 120 times since its launch in April and over 20 beta testers have accessed the education in SKOOL. Now armed with the feedback, Bex will be improving the offering and re-launching it to the MOB community in late 2025 as she is going to have her second child in October of this year.
They’re launching the partnership with Location Location with a party on the evening of September 17th.
Georgie added: “A lot of mums who come to us have had big careers but after children find it hard to get back to work – some want to start a business. By coming together as a community and learning from one another we can make a real difference.  It’s completely free – this really is a community for everyone, regardless of income or career background.
“Our dream is to have MOB communities all around the country and online and knowing the role Location Location plays in its community, we’re really excited to be teaming up with them to launch in Stoke Newington.”
