The Power of Wellbeing: How Prioritising Self-Care Boosts Confidence and Success when building a business (so don’t neglect yourself mobsters!)

Hey Mobsters,

It’s Francesca here, mobster, send parent and founder of we are ambition and exited founder of a tech company that i started on maternity leave. I am delighted to be the resident coach and business mentor to the mob community. if you’ve seen my previous blogs, thank you, I’ve loved the engagement with the blogs thus far! it’s a real privlege to connect with so many inspiring woman in this mums who build community.

It seems the biggest chord struck so far was my blog around the power of personal brand, which got me thinking back to the importance of confidence…

Now confidence is a topic we could talk about in many shapes and forms. However, this week I want to start with wellbeing as a prelude / foundation to finding the confidence and energy to achieve absolutely anything in life.

It sounds all too obvious, the old ‘put your own life jacket on first’ etc etc…The reality I find is that as parents we come last. In fact my kids have just hit the ‘chatty chatty’ phase which I love but it means nobody in the family can think or get a word in edgeways!

That said, years of juggling motherhood and business has taught me that wellbeing must be a priority (easier said than done I know). But we must make time for the things that are important because when we are feeling our best, everything else just flows, even emptying the dishwasher is effortless once I’ve been to the gym!

Wellbeing means different things to so many people.

For some, it might be an early morning yoga session, a brisk walk in the crisp autumn air, or even just a moment of stillness with a cup of coffee before the chaos of the day unfolds. For others, it might be prioritising sleep, fueling their body with the right foods, or carving out time for hobbies that spark joy. The key is understanding what your version of wellbeing looks like and fiercely protecting that time.

In my own journey…

I’ve learned that wellbeing isn’t about ticking off a perfect checklist of habits. It’s about small, consistent actions that nurture both your body and mind. Some days, that might look like smashing out a workout at the gym; other days, it’s a quiet 10 minutes of deep breathing before bed to reset my mind.

the power of connection

let’s not underestimate the power of connection when it comes to wellbeing. A coffee with a friend, a phone call with a loved one, or even a chat with another parent who gets the juggle (i know as mobsters you appreciate the power of connection as much as i do), it all counts. I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve walked into conversations feeling frazzled and left feeling lighter, just because someone truly listened. if you read my previous blog, you’ll remember that it was at a mum-meet up that i met my future business partner. and we all know that a Mobster meet-up is renowned for good, inspiring vibes. connection is powerful.

guilt serves no one

The other lesson I’ve learned? Guilt serves no one. As parents, we’re wired to feel guilty when we do things for ourselves, but the truth is, when we look after ourselves, we’re showing up better for everyone else. My kids might not understand it now, but one day they’ll see that prioritising my wellbeing wasn’t selfish—it was essential for our family to thrive.

take one small step

So this week, especially in the run up to December, I encourage you to think about one small step you can take for your own wellbeing. What’s one thing that lights you up, recharges your batteries, or simply makes you feel more like yourself? Maybe it’s setting the alarm 10 minutes earlier for a bit of quiet before the house wakes up. Maybe it’s saying no to one thing so you can say yes to yourself.

Whatever it is, start small and stay consistent. Because when your cup is full, you’re unstoppable and when you are unstoppable your confidence is going to be right up there alongside you.

thank you for reading today’s blog.
