All I Want For Christmas…Tools and Tech for Hormonal Balance: What’s Worth It, Mobsters?

hi Mobsters,

It’s leah here, founder of the house of hormones, delivering you your weekly dose of wellbeing intel.

Black Friday is behind us, and if your inbox is anything like mine, it’s still glowing from the aftermath. Discounts, deals, and gadgets galore!

But as mums building businesses and juggling life, we know better than to fill our lives with clutter, especially when it comes to our health. So, how do we sift through the sea of tech and tools to find the ones that truly help us feel our best?

When it comes to hormonal health, not all gadgets are created equal. Let’s cut through the noise and explore some science-backed tools that can support your journey toward balance. At The House of Hormones, we’re all about simplifying health, so here are a few gems that might actually be worth your time and investment, this christmas.

Blue Light Glasses: Your Evening Ally

As business mums, we often find ourselves glued to our screens late at night. Whether you’re finalising a client proposal or scrolling Instagram (no judgment!), blue light from devices can interfere with your melatonin production, the hormone that regulates sleep. Enter...... blue light glasses.

These specs block harmful blue light, making it easier for your body to wind down. Pop them on after sunset, and you’ll likely notice improved sleep quality! Who doesn’t need better sleep when you’re working and running a family?

Quick Tip: Look for glasses with lenses that block at least 90% of blue light for maximum effectiveness.

Red Light Therapy: Recharge Your Cells

Feeling tired and/or wired? Red light therapy might be your new best friend. Im obsessed with my face and neck mask. This tech uses low-level red and near-infrared light to penetrate your skin and boost energy production in your cells. The result? Reduced inflammation, improved mood, and even enhanced skin health, all of which are linked to hormonal balance.

You can find handheld devices or panels to use at home. Just 10-20 minutes a day can work wonders for those days when you feel like your hormones are going crazy.

Weighted Blankets: Hug Your Stress Away

Running a business is stressful, and stress is no friend to your hormones. Elevated cortisol (your stress hormone) can wreak havoc on everything from your sleep to your mood. Enter the weighted blanket—a simple yet magical tool for calming your nervous system.

By applying gentle pressure, these blankets stimulate your parasympathetic nervous system, helping you feel safe and relaxed. It’s like a hug in blanket form! And we all know, a calm mum is a powerhouse mum.

Wearable Wellness Trackers

If you’re a data-driven mobster, wearable tech can be a game-changer. From tracking your sleep to monitoring stress levels, devices like the Oura Ring or Fitbit give you insights into how your lifestyle impacts your hormones.

Hot Tip: Don’t obsess over every metric. Use the data as a guide to tweak your habits, not as a reason to stress more.

Do You Really Need It?

Before you add something to your cart, ask yourself:

  • Does this address a specific need or issue?

  • Is it easy to use consistently?

  • Do the benefits align with my wellness goals?

When in doubt, visit www.thehouseofhormones.com to find reviews, tips, and advice tailored to busy mums like you.

As mobsters, we’re all about working smarter, not harder. The right tools and tech can make a world of difference for your hormonal health, but remember, no gadget replaces the basics. Prioritise good sleep, nourishing food, and movement, and let these tools be the cherry on top.

Mindful Balance:

Not all tech needs to be a gadget. How about an online mindfulness class or a breathwork class? WE are actually holding a

free breathwork class on the 17th December to help relieve stress in the lead-up to Christmas. Join us!

In partnership with The House of Hormones and Em of em&co you are invited to a free breathwork session created to help you release the stress and overwhelm that can often surface during the holiday season. This time of year can bring so much joy, but it can also weigh on us with endless to-do lists, family expectations, and work deadlines.

breathwork benefits for busy mums:

  • reduce stress and high cortisol levels

  • improve sleep quality

  • helps with emotional regulation

  • is easier and quicker than meditation!

general Health benefits:

  • improved digestion

  • improved cardiovascular and respiratory health

  • immune regulation

A bit of science: As we breathe more slowly and deeply, we are using our diaphragm muscles (under our ribs) to push the air in and out of our lungs, essentially. Because we are adding more oxygen into our lungs, and deeper, and because the lungs transmit oxygen to the red blood cells zooming around our body, we can bring more oxygen to the places that need it - and this includes the digestive system, brain, muscles, and more! This can reduce brain fog, and help concentration and focus as we move through the day - even when we are finished our breathwork practice.  As a result of moving from a SNS (Sympathetic Nervous System) state, where our bodies are essentially in stress and ‘readiness’ constantly - to a PNS state, we start to allow all the benefits of lower stress into our bodies and mental health.

*note pregnant women are not recommended to participate in the class
