Top Tips to Nourish Your Hormones Today, By Mob Member Leah, Founder of The House of Hormones

I know you don’t want to hear this...... but sugar isn’t great. There, I said it. Before you roll your eyes and reach for the chocolate biscuits, hear me out. When it comes to feeling like your best self, balanced hormones are key, and what you eat plays a massive role in how those little chemical messengers behave.

As a psychologist and the CEO of The House of Hormones, I’ve worked with countless women who’ve struggled with mood swings, low energy, or just that nagging feeling that something’s “off.” And while there’s no one-size-fits-all solution, one thing is crystal clear: nutrition is the first, and easiest step to bringing your hormones back into balance.

Here’s the deal. Your hormones are like a finely tuned orchestra. If one instrument is out of tune (stress or sugar), the whole symphony can sound off. The good news is that by feeding your body what it truly needs, you can reset the stage and get everything humming in harmony again.

I know diets and restrictions can feel overwhelming, so let’s flip the script. Instead of focusing on what to cut out, think about what you can add to your diet. This mindset makes the whole process more positive, and let’s face it, more fun!

Top Tips to Nourish Your Hormones Today

  1. Healthy Fats Are Your Friends
Hormones are made from fat, so don’t shy away from the good stuff. Add avocado to your breakfast, drizzle olive oil over your salad, or snack on a handful of walnuts. These fats are the building blocks your body needs to create and balance hormones.

  2. Get Your Fibre Fix
Fibre helps your body get rid of excess estrogen, which is key for hormonal balance. Start your day with oatmeal or add some chia seeds to your yoghurt. Bonus: your digestion will love you too.

  3. Add Colour to Your Plate
Brightly coloured fruits and veg are packed with antioxidants and nutrients that support your liver, the organ responsible for detoxing your hormones. Think leafy greens, berries, sweet potatoes, and bell peppers.

  4. Prioritise Protein
Protein helps stabilise blood sugar and keeps your energy steady throughout the day. Include options like eggs, fish, lean meats, beans, or lentils in your meals.

  5. Don’t Forget Magnesium
This wonder mineral calms the nervous system and helps regulate cortisol, your stress hormone. Find it in dark chocolate (yes, really!), almonds, spinach, and bananas.

OK, back to sugar, because I know it’s the elephant in the room. I’m not here to tell you to quit your favourite treats cold turkey. I’d be a hypocrite if I did, but be mindful. Sugar spikes your insulin, which throws off other hormones like cortisol and estrogen. Instead of cutting it out completely, try crowding it out by adding naturally sweet options like fruit or swapping white sugar for honey in your tea.

Remember, balance is the goal, not perfection. Small, consistent changes add up over time. When you focus on what you can add to your diet, it feels less like a chore and more like self-care. And isn’t that what we all deserve?

So go on, make your plate your ally. Start with these simple additions, and let your body thank you with better energy, clearer moods, and the kind of balance that makes life feel good. Your hormones (and your future self) will be cheering you on!
